Our drawing can be compared to a series of studies for the painting “Leonidas at Thermopylae,” likely coming from the same sketchbook as indicated by the identical numbering (See P. Rosenberg and L.-A. Prat, Catalogue raisonné of the drawings by Jacques Louis David, Leonardo Arte, 2002, volume 1, no. 179 and no. 181, p. 192 and 195).
